It all started in a small sunlit apartment in Portland, Oregon, where Emily Carter, a lifelong animal lover and freelance designer, shared her cozy home with two of her greatest companions — Luna, a fluffy white Pomeranian with endless energy and attitude, and Milo, a quiet tabby cat who preferred windowsills and soft blankets to just about anything else..

My name is Emily, and if you told me a few years ago that I’d be running a boutique pet shop from my cozy home in Oregon, I would’ve laughed and said, “I just wanted a cute bed for my dog.” But as it turns out, that small wish turned into something so much bigger — and Velvet Paw was born from that very search.

It all started with my Pomeranian, Luna — a tiny ball of joy with more personality than most people I know. A year later, a rescued tabby cat named Olive joined our family. They couldn’t be more different: Luna’s bubbly, bouncy, and constantly looking for attention, while Olive is graceful, mysterious, and only shows affection on her terms. But they both have one thing in common — they deserve the absolute best.

When I tried to find products for them, I was honestly disappointed. Most pet beds and accessories I saw online were either tacky, uncomfortable, made from questionable materials, or just didn’t fit my home’s style. I wanted something soft, safe, beautiful, and thoughtfully designed — not just for Luna and Olive, but for me too. I believe the things we bring into our homes should bring joy, comfort, and a bit of elegance — even if they’re for our pets.

So I spent months researching, testing, and ordering products from all over the world. I learned about materials, durability, what animals actually enjoy — and what’s just marketing fluff. Slowly, I began curating a small collection of things Luna and Olive truly loved: calming beds, minimalistic tunnels, hand-crafted toys, and soft accessories that didn’t scream “pet store plastic.”

Friends started asking me where I got these items. Then their friends did too. I realized that maybe I wasn’t the only one looking for something more intentional — something that treats our pets not just as animals, but as beloved companions.
